Paperboard Products environmental concerns

Paperboard products only sources paperboard from managed and renewable sources.

Safeguarding the future

Today it appears all the more important to use a renewable material that is part of the ecological cycle of nature. The continued use of nonrenewable materials must be done in a responsible and sustainable way. Paperboard is made of a renewable raw material and has many favourable properties which makes it very suitable for convertion into trays and plates. In some packaging applications the material must serve as a barrier against, for example, moisture or fat. By combining paperboard with extremely thin layers of plastic the barrier properties of the paperboard will be enhanced and reinforced. These composite materials make efficient use of the non-renewable raw materials whilst at the same time achieving the functional performance. From both economic and environmental points of view energy recovery is the best option for used paperboard. If material recycling is chosen, processes for the separation of plastic from paperboard on a commercial basis are in operation. The individual materials can subsequently be reclaimed and used separately.
